Frost Damage
(Estimates as presently known)
Tomatoes: Very heavy damage with a loss reaching 75-90%. More accurate figures will be available at a later stage.
Bio Tomatoes: Cherry on vine- 4 hectares are damaged which is 29% of total. Tomatoes on vine- very little damage.
Potatoes: Total damage estimate is about 25%. Supply of 62,000 tons instead of 88,000 tons planned.
Organic Potatoes: 2500-3000 tons lost.
Citrus: Frost damage is about 30% in lemons.Other crop with about 10% damage. Updates at a later stage.
Passion Fruit: About 30-40% is lost of the quantity planned for the next few months.
Herbs: Heavy damage of about 60% in parsley, chervil, and coriander, 60-80% in dill, 40% in roccola. No damage in chives except for slower growth which may cause about 30% in yields. In basil the loss in weight is estimated to be around 40-50% for the next few weeks. There is no damage in mint except for slow growth and reduced quantity of about 20-30%.
Melons: Almost no damage.
Avocado: Estimated waste of about 2,000 -3000 tons but more accurate figures will be known at a later stage.
Capsicum: Heavy damage in Arava and Negev regions. About 6000 tons lost and also some 1000 tons of organic peppers.
Chili: 50% lost.
Lychee: Heavy damage is mainly around the Sea of Galilee. Loss of about 80 tons.
Sweet Potatoes: Possible damage is in 25 hectares in the Arava region with a loss of 500 tons.
Strawberries: 25% waste (preliminary estimate).
Mango: first estimation about 2000 tons lost.
No Damage: Sweet Corn, radish, carrots, dates, pomegranates, plums, apricots and nectarines.
